Transformation Epic Owner

In the context of the Living Transformation, the Transformation Epic Owner is not only responsible for coordinating and leading a Transformation Epic but also takes on the role of a Servant Leader. As a Servant Leader, the Transformation Epic Owner focuses on creating a supportive environment for the Transformation Epic Team that is both motivating and conducive to creativity and innovation. This leader serves and empowers the team by ensuring resources (including those committed during the CAPA event) are provided, removing obstacles in collaboration with the team’s Scrum Master (if available), and promoting an open communication culture.

In their role as a modern agile leader, the Transformation Epic Owner emphasizes flexibility, adaptability, and continuous learning. They understand the importance of rapid iterations (as part of the Living Transformation in 4-week sprints and the Transformation Increment of three months), regular feedback, and the readiness to change plans as necessary to meet the ever-changing demands of the transformation. The Epic Owner fosters a culture of collaboration where experimentation and learning from mistakes are valued.

Analogous to the role of a Product Owner in agile development, the Transformation Epic Owner focuses on maximizing the value of the transformation work within the scope of “their” Transformation Epic. They define clear priorities, ensure an understanding of the vision of the respective Transformation Epic that aligns with the company’s overall transformation goals, and make sure the team remains focused. In doing so, they pay attention to understanding and addressing the requirements and expectations of stakeholders.

In summary, the Transformation Epic Owner in the context of the Living Transformation combines the roles of strategic leader, Servant Leader, agile thinker, and Product Owner. Together with the Transformation Master, they create a dynamic, supportive environment that enables the team to work effectively and efficiently on the transformation while simultaneously supporting the overarching company goals.
